Abstract
Nearly all film historians agree that 1939 marked the zenith of Hollywood production, with releases including Ninotchka, Dark Victory, Midnight, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, The Wizard of Oz , and Gone with the Wind , among many other outstanding movies. Flannery, a free lance writer and co-owner of a postproduction business for film and television, has compiled a filmography of all the films Hollywood released that year, along with a sampling of important films from abroad. For lesser titles, such as "B" movies, he provides a short cast list and a brief paragraph of information. For important films, Flannery gives a more extensive listing of cast and credits, a fairly detailed synopsis, some information about the making of the film, and a few brief quotes from reviewers of the time.
